In the Western culture, having the finest Persian rugs has always been a synonym of wealth and high-class.

These textiles coming from the different regions of Iran are soaked with a very ancient craft tradition and a deep aesthetic research.

Like other complements, the Persian rugs are liable to the design trends, too, that is why they have been reassessed in a modern transposition to fit better the current furnishing.

Leaving the old conception of the classic rug, to this day the Persian textiles can enhance with elegance the environments where they are put in.

Being able to recognize the value of these products is not easy; it requires a wide knowledge of the world of the rug, given by years of experience.

But there are some elements that distinguish the original rugs from others and can be  noticed by those who are less experienced, too.

First of all, we cannot forget that the fine Persian rugs are handmade by skilled weavers and each rug is different from the others. So, if you are in front of two exactly alike products, you should wonder; most probably, they will have been made mechanically.

The floral decorations of the true Persian rugs are always the result of handicraft made by skilled hands with patience, and never with the help of industrial prints.

Another way of assessing if a rug is true is the softness test.

One of the principal features of the fine Persian rugs is softness, given by the exclusive use of 100% natural handspun wool.

If you try to fold a flap of the rug, it will fold easily, then it will be an original manufacture, otherwise it will be machine-made.

The mechanical products are harder for the type of fibres that are used, often of uncertain origin and containing a percentage of synthetic fibre, like nylon.

Finally, in order to check the authenticity of the product that you want to buy, you can check the height of fur.

In the fine Persian rugs, fur is never taller than 4 or 5 mm, and they are often characterized by higher and smaller areas, inaccuracy due to its craftsmanship that is its value added, too.

Another little efficient test is to push on fur with a finger; if the tufts move and you can see the knots, it means that the rug is original.

So, if the product you are interested in is too homogeneous and there are not any knots, it is a worth little mechanical rug.
