 HOW-DOES-A-HAND-LOOMED-RUG-COME-TO-LIFE

The hand loom technique is used to hand make modern rugs by warp and weft weaving. As the word "loom" suggests, this procedure is carried out with the help of a loom which facilitates the process.

The rugs are produced using a vertical loom, while the threads are woven by hand. Many models are short-pile, which makes them soft and comfortable underfoot. The fibres which can be used in this process include: wool, viscose, acrylic, banana silk, silk, PET. There is also the option of selecting more than one type of fibre for making a rug.

This technique combines the knotting of certain yarns which makes a stronger and longer-lasting end product with the same manufacturing cost as that of a hand-tufted rug, as it can be made far more quickly than a hand-knotted rug. It therefore represents an excellent compromise between quality and price.

This type of manufacturing is used primarily to make solid colour rugs with a simple design.
Some examples are our GRAVENMETA and SAN MARCO collections.

GRAVEN
The rug is considered a blank canvas onto which a work of art is "sculpted". Extremely innovative, this product fits perfectly into designer interiors. Its added value and uniqueness, just like a work of art, cannot be serial produced.
It is possible to choose a design guideline but every single piece will be absolutely unique and different from the others. Inspired by the world of contemporary art, the Graven collection is without doubt the most artistic of all Sartori's rug production.
In the same way that the great artists of the last century threw their creativity onto canvas, these rugs are created where artistic gestures characterise the design.

SAN MARCO
The San Marco collection is the result of careful market analysis which reveals an increasingly higher demand for silk rugs.

To meet this demand, our style centre tested many different materials before selecting a vegetable fibre obtained from banana trees.

This type of rug is made by hand and using traditional methods, preserving the natural shine and softness of silk.

What makes San Marco rugs even more exquisite are the soft colours and designs with a neo-classical and modern style, conceived to further highlight the beauty of the raw material.

The different models are made using the carving technique, an ancient method where the pile is manually sheared to create the desired design in relief or bas-relief.

Depending on the different angles at which the light hits the rug, the colour of the yarn appears lighter or darker in tone.

META
The texture of this collection is exquisite and is achieved manually with the help of ancient methods. The yarn is semi-worsted New Zealand wool (partly combed by hand).
This material makes a rug of unique softness which is bright but not shiny. This effect is achieved with a fixative and final washing (antique wash) done entirely by hand.
